A look at the role that technology played during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Technology has played a crucial role in healthcare during the outbreak of COVID-19. With social distancing and stay-at-home orders nationwide, many people turned to digital methods to continue their day-to-day activities.  As patients and physicians turned to telehealth to virtually connect, our on-site associates looked for out-of-the-box ways to keep our facilities running smoothly, while our remote teams worked to ensure that they had the support they needed.

The shift to virtual care meant more space was able to be dedicated to the influx of COVID-19 patients. To keep our teams safe, Medxcel associates who are regularly at the hospital were asked to find ways to work remote.  For example, our HVAC teams have been monitoring systems remotely with cameras to make sure things are running smoothly as they’re working from home, staying in constant communication with those that were on-site.  They even found a way to directly connect to the system to trigger it remotely, should an issue arise.

We utilized remote support to ensure our facilities were not hindered by disparate systems, spotty data or slow response time due to our around-the-clock support. At a time when many systems were being bogged down with overuse, our facilities felt confident that the programs that kept their healing environment efficiently operating would work well and work fast.

Our office-based associates were also asked to work from home, as offices around the country were asked to adhere to distancing guidelines.  This ushered in an era of embracing new technology, connecting digitally, and sharing ideas in ways we hadn’t before.

Communicating virtually was once seen as a futuristic idea and we are proud to say that Medxcel embraced the future with ease.  As telehealth continues to grow in popularity across our hospitals, many teams are realizing the benefits of working remotely and none of that could be done without advanced technology solutions.  COVID-19 caused us to merge healthcare and technology in ways we hadn’t anticipated, but it also showed that we can provide the very best environment of care in every situation.
