“I appreciate the camaraderie and teamwork between all members of Landscape Operations, from the top all the way down. We all support each other, regardless of our roles and locations.”

Describe the path to your current role.

When Medxcel Landscaping launched in Birmingham, AL in spring of 2016, I was hired as a Supervisor. Over the next several months our team grew, and I was promoted to Landscape Manager and one of my team members was promoted to my previous supervisory position. As the regions and responsibilities within the Landscaping team grew, my position expanded to include all of Alabama. In 2019 I was promoted the Regional Landscape Operations Manager with responsibility for a three-state region.

What opportunities has Medxcel provided you to help you grow in your career?

I appreciate the camaraderie and teamwork between all members of Landscape Operations, from the top all the way down. We all support each other, regardless of our roles and locations. I am currently part of a team that is working together to add landscape focused training to Medxcel University, our online training platform. Along with hard work and dedication, I’ve also been blessed in my career and would like to help mentor any others in our field who would like to further themselves and achieve career goals

Which of Medxcel’s Core Values do you feel is most important to you and why?

Dedication is most important to me. My primary role is to support and provide resources to my teams and their leaders. Every team is tasked with the expectation of doing more, sometimes with less, so I want to help make their jobs easier whenever I can. I understand how challenging it can sometimes be to find the right balance between field work and navigating the various systems, while adhering to the multiple processes of a company our size. My goal is to unburden my team whenever possible, while being the manager they need. It's very important they know I’m not successful unless they are and I’m always willing to go the extra mile to provide them with every resource I can to ensure their success.

What is the most unusual thing that’s happened to you during the course of your work at Medxcel?

After 2020, I’m sure that many of us, myself included would say that working through COVID-19 has been the most unusual situation we’ve encountered. We are working hard to keep our teams safe while continuing to serve each hospital to the best of our abilities. This year has been interesting to say the least!

Tell us about something you’ve learned that you did not expect.

I’ve truly come to view landscaping as the “welcome mat” of every campus. I’ve always known that our work is seen by all, but the realization of how much it can positively or negatively affect every individual, from hospital administrations to patients to our own staff, has been eye opening. The mindset that ‘no one knows what we do’ couldn’t be further from the truth – our operation matters from every standpoint.
