David T
David is an HVAC Tech II at a Medxcel client site in Kansas. In his role, David installs, operates, and maintains the hospital’s heating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. He is responsible for identifying and completing needed repairs and assists with the installation of replacement equipment when needed. David and his team conduct preventative maintenance and upgrades to the HVAC systems and equipment and assist other teams within Medxcel as needed.

Describe your day-to-day responsibility and a typical day.

We always have big projects we’re working on but day to day we focus on completing work orders, meetings, and staying up to date with emails. I follow up with customers who submitted work orders to make sure everything is working properly and safely. I work primarily with HVAC, but I also assist other departments like plumbing as needed. We have great inter-department cooperation here allowing us to best serve the customer quickly addressing any type of issues that arise. Our department has technicians in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, maintenance and landscaping. The work could become daunting if we didn’t all pitch in to help each other out.
 

Describe the path you took to arrive in your current role.

I’ve worked in property maintenance for most of my career. For the nine years prior to me coming to Medxcel, I worked in apartment maintenance. That job was okay but coming to Medxcel has really given me an opportunity to expand my horizons. It’s shown me that there is a lot more to heating and air besides the residential aspect I worked in before. A prior supervisor of mine came to Medxcel and he encouraged me to apply. I’ve really enjoyed it here so far.
 

What types of training has Medxcel provided to you? 

I’ve had quite a bit of training on ice machines and I’m working towards my journeyman’s license now. There’s a lot of great training and continuing education available at Medxcel. It’s been a really positive experience and I’ve been able to learn a lot of new things.
 

What is the best part of your job?

The best part of my job is knowing that what I do has a profound effect and impact on the wellbeing of our patients and staff. In the past few years during the pandemic, heating and air has been one of those critical elements as far as keeping everybody safe and healthy. I’m proud of how we worked through that to keep everyone safe.
 

How does the job you do impact patient care?

We’ve learned so much since the pandemic began, especially the importance of positive and negative pressure in spaces. We set up a lot of air scrubbers and worked hard to make areas safe specifically for COVID patients, making sure they have negative pressure rooms to keep the virus from spreading. We really help to keep a lot of people safe. We’re a critical part of delivering care to patients.
 

How would you describe the Medxcel culture?

I’d describe the Medxcel culture as positive. There’s always a push here to improve yourself and there’s lots of encouragement and training available. That’s been such a positive experience for me. Medxcel is definitely the best place I’ve ever worked at.
 

Which of Medxcel’s Core Values is most important to you?

Integrity is the most important Core Value to me, and it means doing the right thing even when nobody is watching. I feel that all of the other Core Values stem from integrity. You can’t be dedicated if you don’t have the integrity to follow through with what you say. Integrity is really that one Core Value that sets the foundation for all of the rest.
 

What would you say to someone who asks you if you recommend working for Medxcel?

I recommend Medxcel, there’s lots of room for personal growth and development. Medxcel really wants us to grow and develop and take ourselves to higher places. At my prior employer, I got to a certain place then I was capped with nowhere to advance my career. But at Medxcel there’s a push to grow talent and see people advance in the company. That’s exciting to me.
